Synposis
As an immigrant child growing up in the Ruby Sea, Ram often believed what the others in his village used to say about him: a dumb, brawny hard-head, ultimately destined to never to find a greatness of his own. And sure enough, Ram grew into the very image painted for him. After muscling his way through the Kugane criminal underworld as a strongarm-for-hire, Ram eventually planted roots in a gang of thieves—the Kurohana Ring—as their resident enforcer. Adopting the "Ohitsuji" title, Ram quickly gained a notoriety for his fierce loyalty; living up to his namesake, he would blindly charge wherever the finger was pointed.And that would’ve been that. But fate, as it often does, had other plans.Following the catastrophic failure of a run-of-the-mill boat heist, Ram was plunged into the depths of the Ruby Sea, barely surviving by a thread. However, the man that washed ashore was not the same. The incident had changed him not just in body, but also in mind.Ram became quickly overwhelmed by the rush of new, vivid sensations, almost as if the Ruby Sea itself had directly drilled an eldritch curse into his skull. Teacups revealed tangent lines along their rims. Perspective lines jutted out from buildings, converging onto a single point. Complex metaphors, once nothing more than jumbled scribbled on a page, began literally constructing themselves in his mind.And yet, Ram could not shake the beauty of this new worldview. For once in his life, he reveled in a clarity and appreciation for life.Now, Ram runs a tight balancing act between fulfilling his obligations as a Kurohana Ring enforcer and making time to understand his new condition, ultimately seeking to walk a path shaped from his own mind.And the first step? Learning how to read.

Childhood: Blue and Red
Ram’s earliest memory came in two shades: blue and red.Growing up in the Ruby sea, blue became the central color palette of his upbringing. Ram adored the ocean, often accompanying his family on fishing expeditions just to gaze into the waters and lose himself to the waves. A childlike wonder sprouted from his observations of the water, as if an invisible painter were staccatoing various shades of blue against the refracting light of the sea.The red motif, on the other hand, came from a more dubious origin.An outcast throughout his youth, secondary to his status as a Gridanian immigrant, Ram swiftly learned that respect was earned through the reality of his fist rather than his imagination. Despite his unconventional name, Ram clung to it like a symbol of defiance, proof that his existence carved a space into his new home. Surely enough, he kept true to his namesake, quickly-tempered and constantly charging headfirst into his opposition regardless of the odds. He reveled in the feelings of control, security, and, most prominently, respect. Yet, his craving for validation eventually tore him off the righteous path, abandoning his home and directing him to the big city, Kugane.
Teens: Gold
A wild delinquent in the streets of Kugane, Ram struggled to scrape by. Every day on the street seemed like a battle for survival, yet he remained headstrong, clinging to life. On the brink of starvation, Ram was picked up off of the gutter by a local yakuza clan, The Kurohana Ring, changing his life forever.Under the guidance of his oyabun, Ram mastered the art of violence, combat, subterfuge, and extortion. His tenacity garnered special attention from the founding members, allowing him to rocket through the ranks as the organization’s prized protégé. He gravitated to this newfound family, instilled by the yakuza lifestyle's strong themes of discipline, connection, and loyalty. By his mid-20’s, the gang life had completely transformed him into the Ring’s stoic enforcer.
Young Adulthood: Black
In what should’ve been another routine score for the Kurohana ring became the night that Ram’s mind split in two. A boat heist, a merchant vessel, a quick raid of the gil coffers. Nothing more.But it seemed that routine had a knack for breeding carelessness.Following the catastrophic accidental murder of an innocent passenger, the merchant crew erupted in fierce resistance. Chaos overwhelmed the vessel, a lantern tipping, oil spreading, and within seconds, the ship became a tinder box. Through the smoke, Ram charged into the frontlines to buy his gang time to escape. But when he turned his head to follow the others, they were gone.Then the powder stores blew.Ram was hurled into the Ruby Sea, his skull smashing against the jagged face of the coral bed. His vision blurred, the burning remnants of the ship seared into his final memory before fading to black.In this darkness, vivid lines and shapes began to bloom from nowhere, etching themselves across the fish scales and seashells. He awoke, clawing his way back to shore, beaten and broken.Lying on the stand beneath the stars, the visions did not subside. While quickly overwhelmed, his tired body was physically incapable to resist. Hours passed, and, over time, Ram began to appreciate the geometries of the night sky. For the first time, he saw the world’s beauty, in all of its horrid, fragile infinity. And, for the first time, a craving unlike anything before: he wanted to understand it.

Now, Ram continues to operate in Kugane, albeit coping with his newfound world view. In his own terms, Ram is aware that he is a “bad man” and often reflects upon the morality of his choices. He struggles to find balance between his obligation to the gang and his yearning for a life beyond it.He seeks to walk a path. A path shaped not by violence, but by his mind.And the first step? Learning how to read.
